Packing for A Cruise; or, A Random Tirade About Fashion

With just three days to go until we set sail on our cruise, I decided it was time to actually start considering the idea of perhaps entertaining the thoughts of probably packing.

I have always been a master procrastinator when it comes to packing. Having spent the last ten years on the road for work, I’ve learned not to stress too much about it since there would always be a place to pick up something I might have forgotten. There will always be a Target, a CVS, or, in extreme circumstances Wal-Mart. (I don’t like Wal-Mart).

I realized that this mentally really isn’t going to fly when I’m on a boat so I guess it was time to get things going.

The problem is, I’m at a point where I really hate everything I own in my wardrobe. This is a big reason why I haven’t gotten after Monica for a photoshoot lately. I hate my clothes.

I, on the other hand, have been working out to look better for the cruise so I’ve got my confidence going for me… right up until we get on the boat and I see all the guys that are younger and hotter than me. That’s when I start to put the Premium Drink Package we ordered to good work.

Now, I am no fashion icon at all. I have friends who are fashion icons and I don’t know how they do it. I truly admire my friend Leslie Kay who has rocketed her own blog, Disneybound, into an empire beyond compare.

Truth be told, I often look to her blog for inspiration. Not only will I look good, I’ll also be Disneybounding which is always a grand ole time.

SIDE NOTE: I couldn’t find/think of a good GIF to put there but this seemed strangely appropriate.

So naturally, I found myself at Target searching for some new clothing items. Surprisingly I was able to piece together two outfits that I am quite proud of and am looking forward to wearing.

You’d think this would be the time in this post where I’d put pictures of what I bought but I’m terrible at creating outfit flats for photographing and Target.com is evil and doesn’t have pictures of the items that aren’t being worn by models.

So I guess you’ll have to wait until I have some photos from the trip.

I also ended up buying a pair of shoes because I have no self control. Thankfully, they will work for all occasions where shoes are needed so I’m not mad about it.

This is only a three-day cruise so as far as I can glean, there is no formal-night like we had on my first cruise which was a 7-day. I did promise my sister one business-casual evening. There’s a good chance I’ll throw on pants and a nice shirt for each night.

If there’s one thing I’m good at, it’s looking good in business-casual.

Part of me is already bummed that the trip isn’t longer but at the same time, the stress of packing for three days has already been enough.

I want to look good. I want to feel good.

I think that is what’s important!

Feel good.

So if you stumbled upon this post looking for advice on how to pack for your cruise- JUST DO YOU!!

I’m actually taking some interesting risks that I never have before. I bought a pink shirt. I’ve never owned a pink shirt before, but I’m excited to wear it.

It actually reminds me of a conversation I had with Leslie at one point when it came to creating outfits and fashion. As I mentioned, I’ve never been on for clothing and was very guilty of finding an outfit that worked and then buying it in every possible color.

Seriously, I’ll show you my closet some time.

Anyway, Leslie and I were chatting (likely at Epcot) about fashion and taking risks and her best advice was, “just go for it, and if you feel good then it really doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks.”

Actually it was at Epcot! She was here for a visit and we were Disneybounding in Alice in Wonderland fashion!

She was the wild flower and I was Alice. Here are some pictures of us meeting Alice herself!

I was expressing my fear in wearing white pants. It was well before Labor Day but since I have never been super-confident in my body so I never felt good wearing bright colors. My wardrobe for the longest time was very dark and I’ve found myself slipping back to that as I’ve felt less confidence in myself.

So maybe this cruise is not only a chance to relax, but to find myself again. I’ve been working out more since I knew this cruise was coming and, while it’s been hard to get back into healthy habits, I’ve getting to a better place.

It took me almost the entirety of 2018 to get to that better place and I’m not quite there, but it’s a marathon, not a sprint.

This post has gone off the rails from what I thought it was going to be… that has been my norm lately.

You’re welcome, I guess.

Go out there and be fabulous ya’ll! I know I will!

NOTE: I want to make sure to credit Monica for the featured photo on this post. She is one of my favorite photographers to work with and not only makes me look good, but it amazing and helping me feel good!
