It’s been no secret that I am a big fan of Pokémon Go. I’ve been playing it at least once a day since its launch in July, especially with the addition of daily incentives for hitting up Pokéstops and catching a pocket monster.
The daily visit to a Pokéstop was actually a non-issue for me since there was one in my favorite Starbucks, right down the street from my house. I would drive over. Hit the stop. Grab a drink. Catch a Pokémon. Boom. Daily play achieved and a got a fun drink out of the mix!
SIDE NOTE: Most people don’t know this about me but I actually don’t drink coffee. I really don’t like it. I’ve never once been able to stand the taste. Even when people tell me you can’t taste the coffee in a drink, I always can. And then it stays with me for way too long and will ruin my day. I won’t even kiss someone that’s just been drinking coffee. Well, I will, but I won’t be happy about it.
My normal drink? Trenta Very Berry Refresher. No water. No berries. Substitute passion tea. Three pumps of mango.
You’re welcome.
Anyway. When I got to my Starbucks today for my daily fix, I noticed something a bit weird. Rather than the one normal Pokéstop, there were now two.
Baffled, I checked it out.
Now, I knew in the back of my head that an update was coming for this month but I didn’t bother to look at specifics since it was clear that writing about the app on my professional blog was starting to annoy people. So I didn’t read into it, I was just excited about the idea that new Pokémon might be finally heading my way. You can only catch so many pidgeys.
This Pokéstop was something different as it was sponsored by Starbucks and offered a new drink called a Pokémon Go Frappuccino.
What does this have to do with diabetes?
I walked into the shop laughing to see my familiar baristas. I immediately showed them the new Pokéstop/Advertisement and asked about the drink. They had apparently tried it earlier in the day (the official launch of this update was at 11am EST). I was warned that it was very sweet but I still wanted to give it a try.
The drink itself is a Frappuccino with a Vanilla Bean base. This is blended with raspberry syrup and freeze-dried blackberries. If that’s not enough sugar for you, it’s all topped off with whipped cream.
I went for a grande sized since I’m not insane. That was certainly enough. The drink was incredibly sweet. Not bad, but I’m fairly certain I officially have diabetes as a result. I don’t honestly know how people can do these kinds of drinks on a normal basis. Even for mine, it’s rare I always add the mango since it’s a lot of sugar and I try to avoid having too much.
Would I recommend it? Why not? Go for it. Grab a tall though. It is very sweet. Definitely great for a Pokémon master looking to overload on sugar while running around trying to catch the little monsters.
The drink is only available for a limited time at selected locations (ones that have become specialty Pokéstops or gyms) so act fast if you want to give it a try!
Happy hunting ya’ll.
